# Choose a video file your destination can use.

The file extension is one part of delivery. Choose a format the destination accepts, use an encoding route available on your device, then inspect the saved result before relying on an upload.

Prism ritual · a scene reference. Visual style and file-container compatibility are separate choices.

## Read the container and the streams inside it.

MP4 and WebM are containers. A container packages encoded video, audio and timing information; codecs describe how those streams are represented. As [MDN’s container guide](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Media/Guides/Formats/Containers) explains, the complete media format involves both. An application accepting an MP4 extension does not automatically promise support for every possible video/audio combination inside an MP4.

Renaming a WebM file to .mp4 changes its name, not its encoded streams or container structure. If a destination requires a different format, use a supported encoding or conversion workflow and inspect the new result. Keep the original output rather than treating a renamed copy as a compatibility fix.

| File-render option in PHASE//VOID | Requested video / audio pairing | Practical consequence |
| --- | --- | --- |
| MP4 | AVC/H.264 video and AAC audio. | Use it when offered for your selected settings and accepted by the destination. |
| WebM | VP9 video and Opus audio. | Use a destination or player that accepts that combination. |
| Realtime Record video | The available recording choices and capture route depend on the browser/device. | Inspect the completed take; a File-render capability check does not certify a separate live recording. |

> The pairings above describe the current product’s requested File-render combinations. They are not a claim that every browser, operating system or target player can encode or decode them.

## Choose from the formats your current setup offers.

File render checks the video and audio encoders for the selected output conditions. Dimensions, frame rate, bitrate and the soundtrack’s sample rate are part of that request. An option available for a small test on one machine may not be available for a different size or another device. The [VideoEncoder configuration check](https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/VideoEncoder/isConfigSupported_static) is a browser capability query, not a finished-film acceptance test.

Select your real frame and export conditions before relying on the format list. If the desired combination is unavailable, inspect the message and try a supported size or encoding route you already have. Do not solve an encoder limitation by changing a filename. The [output-format guide](https://phasevoid.com/guides/aspect-ratios/) owns canvas sizing, and the [film workflow](https://phasevoid.com/guides/youtube-visualizer/#film-steps) owns review and rendering.

Container choice alone also does not rank image quality. Different scene detail, movement, resolution, frame rate and bitrate can change the result. Comparing unrelated MP4 and WebM examples cannot show that one format will always look better or produce a smaller file for your music video.

## Check YouTube acceptance and processing as separate steps.

YouTube’s [supported file-formats list](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/56121) includes MP4 and WebM. Its [encoding recommendations](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1722171?hl=en) describe an MP4/H.264 route and audio requirements. A supported container and a recommended encoding recipe are different statements; this browser app does not promise that every export matches every recommendation or that every upload will succeed.

For example, the current File-render MP4 path requests AVC/AAC but does not offer controls for every platform-specific muxing or encoding detail. Choose an appropriate offered format and inspect the saved video. Do not read the word MP4 as a complete compliance certificate.

After upload, YouTube may make a low-quality version available before higher-quality processing finishes. Its [processing guidance](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/71674?hl=en) separates those stages. Check the processed quality options before assuming that a freshly uploaded low-resolution preview reflects the original file. The app neither uploads the video nor controls that processing.

## Inspect real examples without turning them into a format contest.

The published [Signal rupture MP4 recording](https://phasevoid.com/watch/signal-rupture/) is an original 25 September 2026 example. The [four-act File-render WebM](https://phasevoid.com/examples/file-render/performance.webm), documented on 10 October 2026, uses a different composition and renderer run. Both are real first-party files, with their scope explained on the linked pages.

They are not a matched-source MP4/WebM comparison, a new compatibility test or a promise about your device. Use them to understand the existing evidence boundary. Your own selected soundtrack, output settings and destination still need their own relevant check.

## Run one deliberate delivery check.

Process model: From a reviewed setup to the file the audience receives

1. **Review locally:** Confirm the right soundtrack, frame, passage and offered output format.
2. **Inspect the saved file:** Reopen the actual result and check motion, sound, crop and duration.
3. **Inspect the destination:** Check target-player acceptance and any completed platform processing.

A delivery sequence, not an automatic upload or a guarantee of platform acceptance.

1. Read the destination’s current format requirements before a long export. For a direct handoff, ask which container and codecs the recipient expects.
2. Use the current supported export choices and retain the original output. Confirm [which soundtrack reaches the video](https://phasevoid.com/journal/music-visualizer-video-soundtrack/) instead of relying on what you hear from the room.
3. Open the saved file in the intended player. Check representative movement, the opening and ending, soundtrack, titles and frame shape.
4. If you upload it, inspect the destination’s processed version separately. Keep a local original; an upload request is not proof of a completed or correctly processed publication.

If preview motion, processing time and the encoded result seem to disagree, continue with [preview versus rendered video](https://phasevoid.com/journal/preview-vs-rendered-video/). For the exact Studio controls, use the [complete music-video guide](https://phasevoid.com/guides/youtube-visualizer/). No extra realtime capture is required just to inspect an already completed File render.

## Try the idea

[Review a music-video export](https://phasevoid.com/studio/?flow=video&file-render=1). Opening this task starts no audio, selects no file and grants no input permissions. Review the controls before changing the show.
