# A picture on the wall. A different job from lighting the room.

“We want the room to react to music” can describe three different systems. Decide which result you need before buying equipment or promising an integration.

Rave laser is a rendered visual world. These lines are pixels in the picture, not commands to physical laser or lighting fixtures.

## Separate the picture, the fixtures and the controls.

A projector displays the image produced by a computer. In PHASE//VOID that image can contain procedural worlds, video layers, text and mapped surfaces. The result is most useful when a wall, backdrop, booth or object is meant to carry a visible moving picture. The actual surface, ambient light and viewing position decide whether that picture works in the room.

Entertainment lighting controls physical fixtures. DMX uses fixture addresses and channels; the [ETC terminology guide](https://support.etcconnect.com/ETC/Getting_Started_with_ETC_and_FAQ/ETC_Acronym_and_Definition_Guide) explains those terms. Sending video pixels to a projector is a different output path. PHASE//VOID does not currently provide LED/DMX control, and a laser-like visual does not create control of a scanning laser fixture.

Building control chooses an operating state. Loxone can send network commands to a compatible recipient through its [Virtual Outputs](https://www.loxone.com/enen/kb/virtual-inputs-outputs/). That general interface does not certify a particular installation or firmware version. Our optional local connector receives the supported room commands; it does not make the Miniserver render the image or analyze the music.

## Start with one picture and a place for the computer.

For the browser picture you still need a computer capable of running Studio, a video connection and the intended screen or projector. A ceiling-mounted projector does not remove the computer from that chain. Decide where the operator can reach it, how the browser will be opened and who can recover the setup. Hardware procurement, mounting, power and cable installation are separate decisions.

One projector supplies one raster. Mapping can divide that picture among several surfaces; it is not several independent projector outputs. Use the [stage-design exercise](https://phasevoid.com/journal/one-projector-stage-design/) to choose a focal image and supporting areas, then use the [mapping guide](https://phasevoid.com/guides/projection-mapping/) for geometry, masks and calibration.

Try the actual surface before treating a plan as feasible. Look at the picture with the room lighting used during the event, from the audience area and with the intended composition moving. A screenshot, a catalogue still or a browser-only example cannot establish the brightness, alignment or sustained performance of that room.

## Keep the sound path direct and understandable.

Choose the signal that should drive the visual: a local MP3/WAV, permitted tab/system capture or an available microphone/interface input. The music can reach the room’s sound system by a different route. Browser access to a device and a visible meter are things to check deliberately; the existence of a hotel audio system does not mean its signal is already available to this computer.

Loxone mode changes are not beat data. The browser analyzes its selected audio source. A microphone hears the room; a direct feed is a different routing choice. Follow the [input-routing instructions](https://phasevoid.com/guides/live-visuals/#input-routing), check the intended signal and keep speaker monitoring off when the sound is already playing through another path.

Rehearse with a representative passage and the intended output. A local demo proves a narrow software path; it does not establish sound-to-screen timing through the room’s mixer, interface, display processing and projector. Write down what was actually observed rather than promising universal synchronization.

## Add room control after the image works.

The current Room setup offers Ambient, Party and Techno procedural modes. A mode recalls captured Program and surface worlds/looks/FX while retaining the current frame, calibration and other documented composition state. It is not a complete independent video show recalled by a wall switch. Read the [current Room scope](https://phasevoid.com/guides/live-visuals/#loxone-room) before choosing the controls.

Pairing and Arm are deliberate. A refresh does not automatically reconnect and arm the room. Computer startup, browser recovery, projector power and unattended operation need their own installation plan; these are not supplied merely by selecting a mode. Keep a local operator path that does not depend on the building-control button working.

The connector’s network interface, native Program 16 logic and private keys are installation details for the operator/integrator. Use the existing setup instructions rather than putting addresses or keys into a public brief. Protocol compatibility is a starting point for testing, not a claim that every Miniserver and Loxone Config version has been accepted.

## Leave with a clear next job.

- If you want a moving picture: try the free Studio with one computer and the intended screen, then commission the actual room.
- If you want physical fixtures to change: specify that lighting-control job separately; do not describe it as an included browser capability.
- If you want a wall control to choose a visual mode: establish the picture and audio first, then agree the Loxone integration and recovery tests.

Continue with the [visual-room handover checklist](https://phasevoid.com/journal/visual-room-handover/). For separately commissioned content or an installation, [prepare the existing Installation enquiry](https://phasevoid.com/custom-visuals/#venue-installation). The public Studio remains free; an enquiry is not a quote, booking or hardware acceptance.

## Try the idea

[Review the actual Room setup workflow](https://phasevoid.com/studio/?help=room-control). Opening this task starts no audio, selects no file and grants no input permissions. Review the controls before changing the show.

### Plan a visual room

Decide what the system must do,compose one projector picture, then plan operation and commissioning.

1. [A picture on the wall. A different job from lighting the room.](https://phasevoid.com/journal/projector-visuals-vs-event-lighting/) — this article. Separate projected pictures, fixture lighting and building control.
2. [One projector. One clear visual idea.](https://phasevoid.com/journal/one-projector-stage-design/). Give the one-projector picture a clear composition.
3. [Hand over a room someone else can actually operate.](https://phasevoid.com/journal/visual-room-handover/). Agree startup, recovery, acceptance and operator responsibilities.

Review the existing Room setup before connecting. Keep operator inspection and real Loxone/projector commissioning separate from browser acknowledgements; use the Installation brief for separately agreed work.
